In the wardrobe with… a Cambridge fashion designer

Take a peek inside the wardrobe of Katarzyna Juzak, the 23 year-old Anglia Ruskin graduate whose designs have caught the attention of independent Cambridge boutique, Baska

Architectural

I originally studied architecture before specialising in fashion and that has influenced my work. I use a lot of boning to create strong sculptural shapes, says Juzak

Hot metal

I also design jewellery , accessories and glasses, says Juzak. I studied copper – it’s an amazing material, easy to work with, and even changes colour in the heat, making it look redder in the summer sun

Juzak says… Mix don’t match

I love wearing formal and informal items together. These shorts used to be Dolce & Gabbana flared jeans but I turned them into cutoffs. I took inspiration for the sleeves of my silk blouse from Russian traditional dress

Favourites

These are my favourite shoes, says Juzak. They were from Ecco about six years ago and are so versatile and easy to wear. The bag is H&M

Vintage

I use a lot of vintage items for finishing touches, like these buttons. I also search secondhand shops for finds like this lace blouse

Borrowed

My mother wore this silver and turquoise cuff to a friend’s wedding

Customised

This used to be a long dress from Zara a few years ago. I changed the neckline, removed the sleeves and shortened it and added a frill to update the look

What the fashion buyer says…

“Katarzyna Juzak’s collection is reminiscent of Alexander McQueen’s bold designs. I’m delighted to be able to support and present graduate fashion designers who show such promising talent.” Marta Wisniewska, buyer and manager of Baska, Magdalene Street, 01223 353800
