The Finsbury Park Deltics

Cambridge Art Salon is a relatively new addition to the city’s visual arts scene, being an art gallery situated within an old motorbike showroom on Cromwell Road that is available as an art space for all sectors of the community.
They’ve already held a series of exciting exhibitions, workshops and public art sessions, and this is all set to continue this month when The Finsbury Park Deltics present a distinctive collection of cartoons, Pop Art-inspired paintings and other insights into the workings of their collective mind under the striking title News From The War Against Terror. The Deltics’ chief  spokesman, known to his friends simply as Paul, will be presenting a collection of work for the first time. He has previously had cartoons accepted by the likes of Viz and Private Eye, and is also a published poet, but he has increasingly turned to larger scale art, predominantly using ink and acrylic on paper, as a source of therapy to counter-balance a demanding job and the rigours of modern life.
“I like the two-dimensional certainty of Pop Art, of black ink on white paper,” says Paul, whose work will include pieces inspired by dystopian science fiction, classic rock music, graphic novels, and artists such as Roy Lichtenstein. The title of the exhibition, he says, came to him spontaneously, and while little of the work in it is overtly political, it does reflect many of our early 21st century concerns, whether that’s the almost pornographic nature of war coverage, or the increasing consumerist nature of our society. It is all done however, with humour, self-effacement and skill, and promises to be well worth a visit for anyone with an eye for graphically striking art. The exhibition kicks off with a private viewing on Friday 10 February from 19:00, to which all are welcome.
