If you’re ever scouting around for a proper, traditional village pub that ticks all the boxes in terms of food, drink, value and hospitality, then The Chequers at Pampisford is certainly one to consider. This 16th century pub stands at the heart of its pretty village, which is close to Sawston and an easy drive from Cambridge and beyond. Its location, atmosphere and charm have made The Chequers a real destination pub for those in the immediate community and from further afield, as you can always be guaranteed some good quality home-cooked food, and some real value for money. Inside, it’s an inviting place with low wooden beamed ceilings and several different seating areas arched around the well-stocked bar area.
The food they serve up seven days a week could be described as traditional, with a few twists – their menus being full of tried-and-trusted pub favourites, alongside a few innovative specialities. To mark the start of a new year, The Chequers are introducing a new menu this month, with several new dishes being added to the menu.
Added to this is their popular carvery served every Sunday from 12:00 until 14:30 – with a couple of roasts to choose from, plus vegetables, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds for £9.95. The pub also adds to the village’s sense of community with regular themed events, including a Pudding Club, a Fish Night, Mexican evenings and even live entertainment from Elvis (possibly not the real one though…). Look out too, for details of The Chequers’ new loyalty card scheme, with extra benefits for regular customers, which landlords Maureen and Ivan will be introducing soon. All in all, just another great excuse for heading out to Pampisford to start the New Year in style…
