Always one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the city’s arts calendar, this year’s Classical Concert season at the Corn Exchange looks set to be extra memorable for several reasons. For one thing, the series is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011, and will marking its quarter-century with one of the most crowd-pleasing sets of concerts in its prestigious history. The internationally-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be making two appearances at the Corn Exchange during the season. To kick things off on Thursday 27 October will be performing a selection of popular classics including Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 and Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet suite. The Royal Philharmonic will be returning for a special 25th Anniversary concert in early December, celebrating tow British composers, Vaughan Williams and Elgar, followed by a performance of Dvorak’s New World Symphony made famous by the Hovis ads of yesteryear. Into 2012, the series continues with concerts featuring the Russian State Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the European Union Chamber Orchestra (with soloist Julian Lloyd Webber) and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.

The second significant development is that for the duration of the series, the aforementioned Julian Lloyd Webber, one of this country’s most celebrated classical musicians, will be artist in residence at the Corn Exchange, and will be taking part in a number of  very special musical events.
